Russia’s radiation reconnaissance robots undergoing trials
The Russian Army will in the coming years receive a mobile multi-purpose robotic vehicle to protect and assist troops during radiation, chemical, and biological reconnaissance missions.
According to Lieutenant-General Igor Kirillov, the MRK-RKhBZ robot features two ground robotic systems, two Orlan-10 drones, and detachable equipment.
The system is also outfitted with jam-resistant data control and transfer technology, allowing the vehicle to conduct radiation and chemical reconnaissance at a range of up to six kilometers (3.7 miles).
Currently undergoing preliminary trials, the state-of-the-art platform can accomplish its tasks both automatically and under an operator’s control. Its data transfer drones also have an operational range of 25 kilometers (15.5 miles).
