U.S. Space Command’s Joint Integrated Space Team gathered for the first-ever JIST Summit on Nov. 16-18, 2021, at USSPACECOM headquarters. The JIST is comprised of military and civilian personnel from across the services who represent USSPACECOM at the 10 other combatant commands.

JIST members are integrated into their host combatant commands to show their staffs and leaders how USSPACECOM can support their operations and how they can be supported. Originally named “Space-Integrated Planning Elements,” USSPACECOM leaders believed “JIST” more accurately described the team members’ roles, said U.S. Space Force Lt. Gen. John Shaw, USSPACECOM deputy commander.

During the summit, members gathered to receive briefs from USSPACECOM’s directorates, providing them with an up-to-date snapshot of the activities occurring within the command.  The gathering also gave the JIST members a refresher of how USSPACECOM operates in today’s environment, gave them a better understanding of their future roles and established face-to-face interactions with their peers and command leaders.

U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Brook Leonard, USSPACECOM chief of staff, said the summit was also an opportunity for JIST personnel to present lessons learned, top issues and top successes within their host combatant commands.
