U.S. Wants to use Russian Bases to Attack the Taliban
The United States recalled Russian President Vladimir Putin’s proposal and asked Moscow to provide access to Russian military bases in Central Asia from which to monitor the Taliban or to carry out coordinated attacks on them. The news was confirmed by the Walt Street Journal and quoted in several Russian sources.
According to journalists Michael R. Gordon and Gordon Lubolt, during the meeting between US General Mark Millie and his Russian counterpart Valery Gerasimov, this idea was raised and the two discussed possible future actions to implement it. According to General Mark Millie, the use of Russian military bases will be necessary if the United States wants to monitor the Taliban or launch airstrikes.
