‘Precise hit’ from ATOM on land: ASELSAN integrated it with SARP

ASELSAN’s smart ATOM ammunition developed against air elements can now be used on land. TRT Haber showed the test hit of ATOM and SARP integration. The ATOM 500, which is commanded to explode when it comes out of the barrel, explodes with shrapnel.

ASELSAN engineers have integrated a very critical ammunition into the domestic system. That shot was taken that would give Turkey a new advantage in the defense industry.

ATOM, which can be set when it will explode before being fired and thus detonates itself according to the desired time after exiting the barrel, is a ‘smart’ ammunition that scatters 500 shrapnel towards the target.

ASELSAN produced the 100 thousandth smart ammunition ‘Atom’

ATOM, which was previously used against air elements, can now also hit ground targets. So how was this transformation achieved?

ASELSAN has integrated the smart ATOM ammunition it has previously developed with the SARP weapon system, which has been used in the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) and many friendly and allied countries for a long time.

With the new integration, shelters such as ditches, walls, rocks, caves will no longer be shelters.

Exploding with 500 shrapnel

Güven Solak, Smart Munitions and Active Protection Systems Program Manager, describes ATOM’s capabilities as follows:

“After the trench passes the target behind a suture-like obstacle, after the explosive charge detonates at the exact point we want, its body can split into more than 500 small steel particles, and these are violently scattering, while we can show effectiveness against the target with the shrapnel effect.”

Commanding where and when to explode

ATOM, which can be set when it will explode before firing, thus detonating itself at the desired time after exiting the barrel, scatters its 500 shrapnel towards the target. So how does this ability excel on land?

Sniper hunter

One of the biggest threats to security forces, especially in residential area operations, is snipers. Thanks to this integration, snipers hidden inside buildings will be neutralized in their hiding places from a safe distance.

Serial production is about to start 

With the completion of the system test firing, it is now ready for mass production. The system can be quickly added to the TAF inventory and also has a serious export potential.

The integration can also be used mobile in on-board SARPs.
