Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan reach agreement on withdrawal of troops
The delegations of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan held a working meeting on January 28, State National Security Committee of Kyrgyzstan said.
The delegation of Kyrgyzstan was led by Deputy Chairman of Cabinet and National Security Committee Chairman Lt. Gen. Kamchibek Tashiev. The delegation also included Batken region governor Abdikarim Alimbaev, the Director of the Border Service and heads of other line agencies.
The delegation of Tajikistan was led by the First Deputy Chairman of the National Security Committee, Sughd region governor, Commander of Border Troops, other officials.
The following agreements were reached at the meeting:
1. The joint commission will organize a thorough investigation into reasons of the conflict with participation of line agencies;
2. Return of all civilians, who were evacuated in connection with the conflict, will be ensured;
3. All troops will be withdrawn from the borderline;
4. All roads will be unblocked, damaged infrastructure and power transmission line will be restored;
5. Local authorities of both sides should maintain a proper control over border areas to prevent recurrence of border, water, land and other conflicts.
Clashes occurred on the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan last night. Both sides reported about wounded in the conflict.
