Saab launches new deployable 5G network system
Saab launched its DeployNet, a 5G ruggedised communication system for military and crisis operations, at this year’s Unmanned System Exhibition and Simulation and Training conference (UMEX & SimTEX) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the company announced on 21 February.
According to the company, “DeployNet is a mission-ready deployable tactical 5G/LTE infrastructure providing a wireless network with high-capacity bandwidth in a flexible end-to-end solution built for the most challenging environments. … It is scalable both in terms of user numbers and system range to provide a network for up to 6,500 users simultaneously, with a typical operation area of 100 km 2 per system (multiple frequency bands available).”
The compact system enables the rapid deployment of a secure broadband network – in remote areas – that delivers the transfer of data, and enables real-time video streaming and push-to-talk functionality, according to the announcement.
A Saab spokesperson told Janes that DeployNet was locally developed by Saab’s subsidiary in the UAE, with discussions on-going with several potential customers.
