Azerbaijan thwarts Armenian military provocation near border

Armenian troops on Tuesday attempted a military provocation in Azerbaijan’s Lachin district near the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, which was thwarted by Baku, Trend News Agency reported, citing the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry.

According to the ministry, about 60 Armenian soldiers were driving in two military trucks in the direction of Lake Garagol trying to block the road by setting up metal structures between the positions of Azerbaijani army units.

The Azerbaijani army rapidly fortified the area and took urgent measures.

As a result, the Armenian servicemen were surrounded; however, they were later released, following a request from Russian peacekeepers temporarily stationed in the area.

The ministry stressed that in the event that such provocations are repeated in the future, more stringent and effective measures will be taken.
